Indian designer Sabya sachi’s philosophy when it comes to clothes is simple. He derives inspiration for his sarees and ethnic clothes from deserts, gypsies, prostitutes, antique crafts and cultural traditions of Kolkata, which is his hometown.
Sabya sachi believes that “clothes should be an extension of one's intellect”. He often makes use of unusual fabrics, textures and details. Sabya sachi also uses a lot of patch-work with embellishments on a vibrant colour palette. His dresses reflect ancient and medieval ages. His collection is targeted towards people who walk a path less travelled.
The designer is for reviving Indian textiles in a modern context. Sabya sachi has contributed greatly in reviving and popularizing bandhani, gota work, block printing, kantha, hand dyeing and using them in modern silhouettes.
In the past two years he has worked towards reviving cotton Banarasi sarees in khadi and vegetable hand block prints.
